Eliminating the translation tax

2026-OCT Sunwoo Moon · Systems Research

Modern software splits one fact across four incompatible representations—wire packet, heap object, 4 KB disk page, and UI tree—then spends most of its instructions translating between them.

Yeowoo Labs is a systems research and engineering lab in Seoul. We build statically verified compilers (aup), zero-copy B+tree runtimes (Pure), 0-RTT encrypted links (pure://), and direct display engines (Vega) around one rule: if two layers hold the same information, erase one of them.■

Four layers, one binary contract

C17 + LIBC Zero third-party runtime dependencies

Databases, compilers, network transports, and interface toolkits evolved in isolation. We collapse them into a single statically verified binary format (.pmod) across ARM64, x86_64, and Apple Silicon.■

Verified Micro-Runtime & Persistent B+Tree

Proves types, stack depth, and loop bounds at load time (4,632 B core). Commits columnar PURETRE3 leaves in one writev + fsync while readers traverse in place without locks.

1,053 CHECKS Pre-declared kill-bars on identical ARM64 hardware

Every hypothesis begins with a rejection threshold written before the code. Designs that miss their bar on identical hardware are reverted and preserved in git.■

notes 076, 092, 106

4,980 durable tx/s on flash (6.7× SQLite WAL)

5-transaction TPC-C ACID parity across 9 tables: 40,976 tx/s in RAM (4.0× SQLite) and 4,980 fsync-durable tx/s on flash vs. 739 tx/s for group-committed SQLite WAL. Record commits write 8–18× fewer bytes than 4 KB pages.

note 091

3–420× faster analytics without indexes

Columnar leaf stripes complete 100k-row pgbench rank in 6.8 ms (vs. SQLite 2,840 ms) and branch aggregation in 4.9 ms with zero index overhead.

notes 075, 111

100 isolated apps in 2.3 MiB host RSS

21,300 durable HTTP writes/s across 64 connections; co-located modules exchange 1.14M msg/s in-process without sockets.

notes 088, 093–102

462,000 sealed msg/s at 132 B per peer

0-RTT HPKE from the first datagram with crash-safe exactly-once delivery—1/289th the per-peer memory of Rust quinn QUIC.

About Yeowoo Labs

SEOUL, KR Independent Systems Research & Engineering

Yeowoo Labs studies and builds foundational software systems—virtual machines, static verifiers, zero-copy storage engines, encrypted transports, and direct display runtimes.

We work from first principles in C17 and libc with zero third-party runtime dependencies, using empirical falsification to remove redundant layers across the software stack.■
